INTERNET SAFETY

The internet is an important part of how children and teens learn, communicate, socialize, and entertain themselves. From social media and online gaming to texting, streaming, and artificial intelligence, young people are spending more time connected than ever before.

The Braham Police Department Crime Prevention Unit is committed to helping students develop the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the online world safely, responsibly, and confidently.

Internet Safety Education in Braham Schools

As part of our ongoing partnership with Braham Area Schools, the Braham Police Department provides free annual safety awareness training to students. Officers visits with students to discuss internet safety, responsible technology use, and potential risks they may encounter online.

Training topics may include:

  • Social media and online privacy
  • Cyberbullying and online harassment
  • Protecting personal information, passwords, and location
  • Online gaming and communication with strangers
  • Inappropriate or explicit images and messages
  • Sextortion, blackmail, and online exploitation
  • Scams, phishing, and fraudulent accounts
  • Artificial intelligence and responsible AI use
  • Digital footprints and the long-term impact of online activity
  • How to block, report, document, and seek help when something doesn't feel right

Our message to students is simple: Think before you post, protect your personal information, trust your instincts, and never be afraid to ask a trusted adult for help.

Internet safety education is not intended to discourage young people from using technology. Instead, we want students to understand the risks, recognize warning signs, and make smart decisions while using the technology that is already part of their everyday lives.

Parents & Caregivers

Online safety works best when schools, families, law enforcement, and students work together. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to have regular conversations with children about the apps, games, websites, and social media platforms they use.

If a child receives threatening, sexually explicit, harassing, or concerning messages, encourage them to tell a trusted adult. When appropriate, preserve messages, usernames, screenshots, and other information that may assist with reporting the incident.
