GUN PERMITS

If you reside within the city limits of Braham, you will apply for your Permit to Purchase with the Braham Police Department. Residents with a Braham address but reside outside the city limits must apply at the Sheriff’s office within the county you reside.

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age to purchase a handgun and 18 years of age to purchase a military style assault rifle.
  • Permit to Purchase applications can be submitted in person by the applicant. Applicants must present a current Minnesota driver’s license, state issued ID or Passport (or a legible colored photocopy). Applications can also be mailed and must include a current copy of a Minnesota driver’s license, state issued ID or Passport. Copies must be in color.
  • Application approval may take up to 30 days. If your application is approved, your card will be mailed directly to your home address. If you are denied, you will receive a letter stating why.

 

Note to Firearms Permit Applicants and Issuing Agencies: The law regarding extreme risk protection orders (ERPO) becomes effective Jan. 1, 2024. The subject of an ERPO is prohibited from possessing firearms. As a result, the BCA will update both the Permit to Carry and Permit to Purchase/Transfer forms on Jan. 1 to reflect this change in t​he law.
